Common cold:
1. Blow your nose often, rather than sniffing back the mucous.
2.Put 2-3 drops of salt water in your nose in the morning and before going to bed. Salt keeps the nasal passage moist; the saline solution also helps thin the mucous so you can get rid of it at regular intervals.
3. Make hot chicken soup with lots of garlic. Have when hot. It will help unclog your nasal passage.

4. Have lots of liquids like water, tea, soups, etc, daily. This will replace important fluids lost during the cold and help flush out impurities.
5.Soak your feet in warm water, it will help relieve any headaches or nasal congestion you get during your cold.

Sore throat:
Some home remedies that can be used are:
1. Boil water with 2 tsp of lemon juice and 2 tsp of honey and sip. cool a little before sipping.
2. Boil water. Add a dash of cinnamon, a little piece of ginger, 1 tsp honey and drink.
3.Take 1 tsp fresh ginger juice, ½ tsp honey and a pinch of turmeric. Swallow this mixture at least three times a day.
4.Heat one glass of water, add a tsp of salt and gargle. Be careful not to swallow the water as it may make you feel like throwing up.
5. Heat ½ glass milk, add less than ¼ tsp of turmeric and sugar. Drink while warm.
6. Pour one cup of boiling water over a piece of ginger, ½ tsp ground cloves and ½ tsp cinnamon. Filter it, sweeten with honey and have it sip by sip. This helps when there is mucus or phlegm in the cough.
7. Avoid milk and milk products if you have excess mucous secretion.


Acidity

1. Drink one  glass of lemonade/shikanjavee before each meal, it will help relieve acidity.
2.  Chew 8-10 pudina leaves  early in the morning on an empty stomach for one month.

3.Eating raw onions along with your meals will also help with  acidity problems.
4. Avoid excess quantity of tea, coffee, fried and fermented food as they stimulate acid production.
5. In a glass of water, add a pinch of baking soda and drink it at one go. It gives immediate relief.

6.In a glass of warm water, add a pinch of heeng and have it every morning.
7.Drink coconut water 3-4 times in a day.
8.Eat a serving of cucumber or watermelon 4-5 times in a day.
9.Chew 7-8 tulsi leaves leaves to get relief from acidity and gas.

Skin Care:

1) In a bowl mix some milk with little lemon juice and dab on face with cotton. Leave this for 10-15 minutes and then wash over. This will help even out skin tone.

2) Rub tomato halves on your skin. Let dry and then wash your face with lukewarm water.

3) Mix together a teaspoon of gram flour (besan) with a pinch of turmeric powder, a few drops of lemon juice. Apply to skin, let dry and wash with lukewarm water.

Dark Circles Under Eyes

1) One thin slice of cucumber and place over eye, rest for 10-15 minutes.

2. Apply cold teabags over the eyes.

Acne/Pimples

1. Stop touching your face repeatedly. You hand has lot of germs and also helps pimples to spread. Don’t squeeze, scratch, pick the little bumps

2. Drink lots of water (8 - 10 glasses each day) to flush out toxins and to keep you skin hydrated. Stop drinking carbonated drinks.

3.Wash your face with mild soap and water.

4.Avoid greasy cosmetics or creams. They make you skin oily and can aggravate the skin condition.

5. Mash a tomato to form a pulp and spread this over the face, leave for 15-20 minutes and rinse off.

6. Make a paste of fenugreek leaves and rose water and apply to your face to prevents pimples, blackheads, dryness of face and early appearance of wrinkles. Wash it off after it dries.

7.Make a paste of neem  powder and rose water, apply to your face, let dry and wash off.

8.Make a paste of chandan and rose water and apply to your ace, let dry and rinse.

Animal bite

Mix equal quantities of castor oil and lime juice.Massage the affected area with this mixture. Also have 1 cup warm water mixed with lime juice and honey

Bad Odour

  1. Use neem twigs as tooth paste.
  2. Powder the dried mint (pudina) leaves.Use as toothpowder.

Bed wetting:

Give 2 walnut halves (akhrot giri) and 1 teaspoon of kishmish to the child before sleeping for 10-12 days.


Belching (dakaar)

Grind 2 teaspoon each carom seeds (ajwain) and dried ginger (adrak) into a fine powder. Add a little kala namak. Take 1 teaspoon of this mixture with 1 cup warm water frequently.

Fever

Gas Problem

Some people are allergic or have intolerance for milk, milk products and wheat, wheat products but go through life without ever realizing this and keep suffering from acute gas trouble. Lactose intolerance (from milk) is being recognized in the west as also gluten intolerance (from wheat). Hence giving up these two things may greatly benefit you. Instead of wheat you can have rice or chapattis of maize, jawar and bajara. w Mix ¼ teaspoon dry ginger powder (sonth) with a pinch of asafoetida (hing). Also avoid heavy (fried), spicy food. Do not eat very large meals, instead eat small meals. Try to eat a little, every 2 hours, so that the gap between the meals is not too big. Do some exercise. Even a walk will do wonders. Take 5-10 tulsi with a pinch of rock salt to cure gas problems.

Headache

  1. Make a paste of dry ginger (sonth) with a little water or milk and apply  to the forehead.
  2. Roast some ajwain dry on a tawa. Tie it in a muslin bag and sniff frequently.
  3. Make a paste of 2-3 powdered cloves (laung) and salt. Apply this paste on the forehead.
  4. A ripe apple, after removing the upper rind and the inner hard portion should be taken with a little salt every morning on an empty stomach. Continue for a week. This yields good results even in case of chronic headaches.
  5. Mix 1 teaspoon finely ground cinnamon (dalchini) in 1 teaspoon water and apply on the forehead. It is very effective in headache due to exposure to cold air.
  6. Crush an onion and apply the paste on the head.
  7. Grind 10-15 tulsi leaves with 4 cloves (laung) and 1 teaspoon dried ginger (sonth) into a paste and apply.
  8. Tulsi Tea: Mix 8-10 basil (tulsi) leaves, ½" piece ginger (adrak), 7 black pepper corns (saboot kali mirch) powdered coarsely with 1 large cup (200 ml) water. Boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and keep for 2-3 minutes. Strain, add boiled milk, sugar and drink warm. Lie down covering yourself with a sheet for 5-10 minutes. It is very helpful in headaches, cold, indigestion. Drink 2-3 times a day. (For children reduce quantity to half. )
  9. Alao you can do simple Chinese acupressure technique.Place your thumb on the web of skin between the thumb and index finger of your other palm and apply pressure for about two minutes. Repeat on the other hand. However, this Chinese acupressure massage is not recommended for pregnant women.
Heart burn

Add 1 tablespoon mint (pudina) leaves to 1 cup water. Take twice or thrice a day

Hiccups

  1. Suck 2-3 small pieces of fresh ginger (adrak). This helps in hiccups which keep occurring again and again
  2. Drink ½ glass water, slowly.Keep a teaspoon of sugar in your month and suck slowly.
  3. Swallow ½ teaspoon mustard seeds (sarson) mixed with ½ teaspoon pure ghee.
  4. Grind 4 cardamom (chhoti illaichi) well. Boil it in 2½ cups or ½ litre water. When about 1 cup water remains, remove from fire and sieve it through a muslin cloth. Let it cool. When warm, drink a glassful.
